The Umbrella Movement Leader's Conference

The agenda will include lunch, musical entertainment, featured speakers,
and ample time for dialogue, interchange of ideas, and strategy sessions
for structuring the Umbrella Movement.

We are pleased to announce that the confirmed featured speakers will be:

• Robert Steinback - News Columnist, Miami Herald
• Howard Simon - ACLU Executive Director, Florida Chapter
• Jim Mullins - Senior Fellow at the International Policy Institute
• Jacque Fresco - Futurist, Industrial Designer and Human Factors Engineer

THE UMBRELLA MOVEMENT TO COUNTERACT THE RIGHT is a grass roots
organization dedicated to the proposition that, THE RIGHT IS WRONG. We believe that the extreme political right and the Christian Right have led our country in a direction which endangers the preservation of the basic freedom, liberty and democratic society we have known. We believe that through organization we can educate, energize, and mobilize a concerned public, and join forces with others who believe, as we do, that the Right is Wrong. We welcome any and all ideas, suggestions, and critiques. For more background on the Umbrella Movement, read "The Rationale."

The concept of the "Umbrella Movement” is to have as many non and anti-right individuals under the "Umbrella ", while at the same time pursuing a dual track of recruiting organizations, such as yours, to join with us under the same Umbrella. We believe that to contend with the Movement of the Right, we must 'level the playing field'. The 'Right' controls the White House, both branches of the Congress, "think tanks', talk radio, Fox TV, etc. Ours must be a holistic approach, by having members of diverse organizations, who will remain independent, while remaining part of a permanent coalition, which will weigh in on certain issues. Together we will be able to:

• Benefit from numbers
• Organize Umbrella Chapters
• Coordinate among the various member organizations
• Attract and benefit from media attention.

We are sure there are other benefits to be accrued, if we are all under a common ‘Umbrella’. Certainly, we are not the sole fount of ideas and programs. That is why we are inviting you to the Umbrella Movement Leaders Conference on March 5, 2005 in Miami Beach. This conference is intended only for the leadership of each organization, with no more than two representatives from each attending.
